On This Coming Sunday

On this coming Sunday morning, I'm going for a nice jog around my neighbourhood. It shall be the start of my back-to-fitness programme during the holidays.

After that, I shall be reading the latest chapter of One Piece and Naruto.

In the afternoon, I'm going to visit Sitex, and maybe do some window-shopping (and maybe real one).

In the evening, I'm going to be facebooking and doing research on possible plans for a Malaysian trip.

And finally, I'm going to stay up into the wee hours of the night, to watch any random stuff I can find online.

For someone with two papers the next day, I'm dreaming too much.

I Believe in Karma

I think the academic gods must be smiling on me today. Must be all the good karma that I have accumulated over the past year.

I make my way to school today, dreading my international econs paper. As described in the previous post, I think my results is gone for this module. Perhaps more aptly put by CSQ, gone-f**ked. Think only 7 hours of revision to cover over 500 pages of international economics concepts, out of which 100 pages are totally new to me, portends my first C in SMU.

Until I saw the questions.

Essay question no 2: Is trade surplus worse off than trade deficit?

*WOOHOO* If this weren't an examination hall, I would probably respond to my urge to jump with joy. My IE project research topic came out. Kio! Well, it's only one of the two questions that I have to do, but at least the situation will not be as bleak as it can be. And the MCQs included quite a number of qns related to my FIIM project. Kio!

On another note:

I think I'm officially the saddest person around in SMU as pointed out by my friend who has finished all his exams. I don't think there is anyone else in the school who has two more papers left tmr. I think of no other accounting students taking AFA and AIS together. Sianz. Argh!!!

What Does it Mean When..

Red Bull drinks are sold out on all vending machines I went to around school.

WT*..

Had to settle for my next best alternative - Traditional Coca-Cola

And as I made back to the library, I started noticing Red Bull cans everywhere. In the dustbins and on others' desks.

Two Down / Three More To Go

I feel less ethical after my business ethics exam / course.

I've only learnt to use ethical theories to justify my decision.
All my stands for the cases are similar.

The first and foremost agenda of organisations is profits. I should put the interests of my company before anything else. Different ethical theoritical frameworks suggest blah blah blah. BUT, as a CEO I must ensure the long term sustainability of my company.
- Hence I should sell my video games which promotes violence
- Hence I should intrude on my employee's privacy to protect my own interests.

Sianz.. My personal ethics are being compromised by business ethics.
I justify decisions which serve to protect my (company's) own interests.

Nicknames

Different nicknames I have bring back fond (and maybe some not-so-fond) memories of different phases of my life. I had at least 2 during my primary school days, 2 during my secondary school days (from band.. though I can't recall if i have any within 4O), and surprisingly none during my JC days. NS, there were a couple, one of which was from my primary school days. Here are the recent ones:

- LaW:
This is most commonly used, especially after I started using it as my msn nick and signing off with it. Originally used only in emails and sms, people have recently start to call me with that. "Hey Law", "Law, can u..." And I actually responded to them.

- Lawley:
This is a variation from LaW, which originated from my roommate during my Perth trip. Nowadays, there's a new variation - Lawleypops - which thankfully is used only by some of my female friends. I promise to beat up any guy who calls me that.

- Lo-my-guy
This is a pun on my surname, created after inspiration hit my friend as he was eating 'lo mai gai' - the glutinous rice with chicken, usually sold together with 'paos'. Sounds a bit gay-ish.

On my papers..

Once again, the FIIM paper raise my (already high) respect for prof who set open book papers and mcqs for final exams. These questions are never easy. Having the book + laptops + notes did not help me at all for this paper. Given the time contraints, it boils down to how well you understand and apply the concepts. Luckily, it doesn't seem that bad for me for this paper.

I seriously hate MCQs that goes sth like (a) I&II are true (b) I,II & III are true (c) Only II is true (d) None of the above. Even more so when each option is already so difficult to evaluate. Argh..

Back to mugging for another open-book paper tmr. Dread.

Hope my A-lvl's computing knowledge + my audit experience will help me beat this paper.

ROAR! I shall beat all these exams.. Think lowering my expectations helps a lot to reduce stress. Even with so much left to cover, and the insufficient time spent on preparations, I'm still in an easy-going mood. Typing a blog entry now is a testimony to that.

Hopefully, I don't screw up this semester that badly.

Cursing

I cursed and swore more than I have spoken today.

I have only spoken in these mostly-very-brief conversations today.
1) With my mum before she left for church
2) Saying goodbye to my bro before I left home
3) Ordering my plate of duck rice for lunch
4) With my family over dinner

Graduating..

I woke up this morning and all of the sudden, it came to me that I'm going to graduate in 1.5 years time. When my brother underwent matriculation last sat, it brought back memories of those sense of excitement and anticipation I felt towards uni-life 2 years ago. (School) life is too short. Argh, and there's still so much to be done (in order of priority):

- Yet to find a companion (female)
- Yet to accumulate enough happy memories
- Yet to pick up my driving license
- Yet to decide what I want to do in life
- Yet to be ready to face the relentless and impersonal working life
- Yet to score straight A's for a semester (k.. this is not impt)
- ... and the list goes on..

I'll miss the carefree interactions with the people around me. I'll miss (probably) mugging. I'll miss school life.

Bored in the Library

Things which I observed at the library today.

1) Highly irritating person sharing a table

This guy was seated across me at the same table. Think he's going through some chapters about quantitative methods (statistics) to prepare for his CFA exam. Well, the workbook says CFA. Apparently he wasn't making much progress. Time to time, you hear him muttering expletives. For example, there was one which i hear quite clearly. "What a f**king boring piece of s**t." Hmm.. Think that, i can tolerate. What i couldn't stand was his random bouts of humming and his audible demonstration of frustration from his pen and book-flipping.. Now those were really disturbing. I switched table when i got the chance to.

2) Easily irritated old man

Think this old man was bored at the library. He seemed rather easily disturbed by all the little noises around the library, including the ones made by my ex-neighbour. What was troubling was that he never failed to stare around. And because I sat in front of him, he would stare at me. At least that was what I notice whenever I looked up. Ok, at least he could be friendly. He gestured for me to join him at his table (I wondered why), to which I smiled and declined.

3) SMS

Over half of the sms I received today start with "Haha".

4) "So cute"

Wonder why girls are more inclined to say things like "this is so cute". My friend remarked that twice within an hour, one on her bookmark and another on a baby. Can't recall a guy who said that.

Argh.. 7 more days to exams.. Back to mugging..

Totally Random

Saw a squirrel darting across a top of a fence yesterday from my bus. Quite a rare sight. The squirrel is surprisingly very nimble. Wonder how it coordinates all its four limbs to enable it to move so quickly across. And it isn't really simple to cross the fence. To draw an analogy. It will be the same as us trying to walk onto the poles 4 metres above ground. Not really an important observation, but it's something simple that brings a smile and creates interest on a otherwise mundane day.

Argh.. 10 days to my first paper.

Exam Stress

Oh man. I've just finished planning my study schedule for my upcoming examinations
Things certainly don't look good.
5 papers in one week, with so much to cover in the two weeks remaining.

If I have a religion, I'll probably start praying.
Because I don't, I could only swear (anger) or go into depression mood.

Should I plan my exercise plan too? Haven't had one for a long time, and correspondingly, I haven't exercised. Not exactly what I intend my current lifestyle to be. Ok. At least I shall try to re-visit the gym tomorrow.
